'Fish Come Through In Extras

Tike’s walk-off single gives Bridgeport series opening win
 
(Bridgeport, Conn. – August 3, 2010) – The Bridgeport Bluefish defeated the York Revolution 6-5 in fourteen innings of play Tuesday night at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.
 
The Revolution put together enough offense to take a 1-0 lead over the Bluefish in the first inning. Liu Rodriguez started things off for York with a one-out double drilled to center field. Ramon Castro put Rodriguez on third with a single falling into left field, and Rodriguez continued on to score on a wild pitch thrown by Bridgeport’s Luis Gonzalez.
 
The Bluefish earned a run of their own in the bottom of the second to tie the game. Joe Jiannetti led the inning off on a triple to the corner in left, and Luis Rodriguez executed a perfect sacrifice fly to deep right field, allowing Jiannetti to tag up and score from third.
 
What looked like a 5-3 win for York turned into a 5-5 tie, sending the game into extra innings courtesy of a home run hit by Steve Moss. The game carried on to the bottom of the fourteenth inning, when Bridgeport rallied for the win. Danny Putnam walked with one out, and Brandon Chaves followed with a single to right field, moving Putnam to third. Tike Redman became the hero, sending a line drive to right to bring home Putnam, the game winning run.
 
Luis Gonzalez started on the mound for the ‘Fish, giving up two runs on four hits, with five walks and ten strikeouts. Jorge Perez (5-2) earned the win, throwing three scoreless innings and giving up three hits with one strikeout.
 
York’s starter Damian Moss lasted four frames, suffering two runs on six hits and walking two batters. Vince Perkins (0-1) suffered the loss for the Revolution, allowing one run through four and one-third innings of work. The righty walked five and struck out three.
 
Lopez led Bridgeport’s offensive attack with four hits, including a double with a run scored and an RBI. Jiannetti collected three hits of his own, with a double, triple and an RBI. Hiram Bocachica added three hits, two of which were doubles, and Luis Rodriguez hit two sacrifice flies to bring in two RBI.
 
The Bluefish and Revolution will square off tomorrow in a special matinee doubleheader beginning at 10:35 a.m. The Ballpark at Harbor Yard gates open at 9:35 a.m. and everyone in attendance will be able to experience “Winning Inning Wednesday” and have the chance to take home $10,000.
