Guzman powers Riversharks past Bluefish
(Bridgeport, Conn. – July 25, 2010) – The Bridgeport Bluefish fell to the Camden Riversharks 5-3 on Sunday afternoon at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.
The ‘Sharks attacked first, scoring three runs in the third inning to gain the lead. Kyle Haines started the inning with a single over the shortstop, and with two outs Chris Malec kept the inning alive on a base-hit to left center. Brian Burgamy walked to bring up Garrett Guzman, who cleared the bases with a triple, giving Camden a 3-0 lead.
Bridgeport shrunk Camden’s lead in the seventh frame. The rally began with back-to-back singles from Luis Lopez and Joe Jiannetti. With one down, Luis Rodriguez launched a triple off the wall in right center to score Lopez and Jiannetti.
Eddie Camacho (4-0) earned the win for the Riversharks. The lefty allowed one unearned run on two hits, with two walks and four strikeouts. Tracy Thorpe pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn his ninth save of the season.
Bridgeport’s Matt Pike (9-4) took the loss, surrendering four runs on six hits, while walking three and striking out four through seven innings of work.
Josh Phelps collected two of Bridgeport’s three hits of the day and Luis Rodriguez added to the offense with two RBI.
The Bluefish now take to the road for eight games starting tomorrow night in Southern Maryland. Bridgeport visits the Blue Crabs for four games and then travel to Somerset for a four games series against the Patriots. The Bluefish return home on Tuesday, August 3, to open a weekend series against the York Revolution.
