'Fish Walk-Off On Skeeters In Series Opener

Nina Makes A Long Night Of Baseball Well Worth The Wait

(Bridgeport, CT– September 5, 2017) – The Bridgeport Bluefish (29-30, 70-59) defeated the Sugar Land Skeeters (29-29, 59-69) 5-4 in 12 Innings at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Tuesday night in the opener of a three-game midweek series in the Park City. The Bluefish are victorious for the second time this season when free baseball is played while registering their fifth win on the 2017 campaign in walk-off fashion in a matchup that saw a combined total of eight ties and lead changes overall.

Bridgeport starting pitcher Charles Brewer tallied a no-decision in the ballgame, allowing three runs on five hits (one home run) in six innings on the mound, striking out five while tossing a wild pitch and hitting one batter as the right-hander notched his tenth quality start of the year. Sugar Land starting pitcher Alberto Rodriguez also did not factor in the game’s final outcome, giving up two runs on six hits across five innings pitched, walking one and striking out three in his Skeeters debut.

Trailing 4-3 in the bottom half of the eighth inning, Bridgeport tied the game against Scott Maine on a two-out, opposite-field run-scoring double off the bat of Gustavo Molina that just eluded a diving attempt by centerfieder Joe Benson, scoring Jonathan Galvez after he reached with a two-base hit of his own versus Maine with one man down. The battle of the bullpens continued all the way to the home half of the 12th as Daniel Fields began the final rally with a leadoff walk issued by losing pitcher Mark Haynes (2-5). With one away, Andrew Lambo and Santiago Nessy were both issued free passes that loaded the bases and moved the potential winning run in Fields just ninety feet away at third base. With the count full, Angelys Nina sent the faithful ‘Fish fans home with smiles on their faces by plating Fields with an RBI base knock over the third base bag just out of the reach of a diving Bryan Pounds as four-hour ten minute marathon that also including a fifty minute rain delay ended on a high note, making a winner out of Drake Britton (3-1).2017 Liberty Division All-Star Luis Hernandez led the way for the Bluefish with three-hits, his 31st multi-hit game of the season and fifth of the three-hit variety.
