'Fish Sweep Twin-Bill From Revs To Win Series

Seaton Victorious In Opener, Severino Strikes Out Seven In Nightcap Debut

(Bridgeport, CT– September 3, 2017) – The Bridgeport Bluefish (28-30, 69-59) defeated the York Revolution (32-26, 60-68) in both games of a single-admission doubleheader on Sunday at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard, taking the opener by the score of 8-4 and winning the back end of the twin-bill 4-1, with both contests lasting seven innings of play. Game One was delayed two hours and fifty four minutes due to rain, but in the end the Bluefish and their fans were victorious all around as Bridgeport finishes the regular season versus York winning 14 of 22 meetings overall.

In Game One, Bridgeport starting pitcher Ross Seaton (2-3) picked up the win, giving up just one run on seven hits across five innings of work, walking two and striking out four while tossing a pair of wild pitches. York starting pitcher Logan Williamson (5-9) suffered the loss, allowing eight runs on 11 hits in four and two-thirds innings pitched, walking and striking out two.

Trailing 1-0, Bridgeport exploded for eight unanswered runs in their opening five innings at the plate against Williamson, highlighted by a run-scoring double off the bat of Jonathan Galvez and an RBI base knock from Jose Cuevas in the home half of the first. The ‘Fish then batted around in the bottom of the fourth, scoring four more runs on an Angel Rosa sacrifice fly, an RBI double from Luis Hernandez, and a two-run single by D’Arby Myers. The boys from the Park City added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth when Gustavo Molina plated Daniel Fields with a run-scoring two-base hit of his own as Bridgeport was victorious in rather comfortable fashion.

In Game Two, Bridgeport starting pitcher Dominic Severino registered a no-decision in his Bluefish debut despite firing four scoreless innings on just three hits allowed, striking out seven. York starting pitcher Jay Gause (9-3) was tagged with the loss, surrendering four unearned runs on two hits in three and two-thirds innings on the mound, walking four and striking out while also throwing a wild pitch. Vinnie Pestano struck out two batters in the top of the seventh for his first save of the season.

Bridgeport scored a pair of runs in both the second and third innings as York’s defense let Gause down in a major way committing three of their four errors in the ballgame across that span to give the ‘Fish a 4-0 cushion. Galvez was in the middle of the run production once again, driving home Fields with a single that resulted in his team-leading 76th run batted in on the campaign, fourth most in the Atlantic League. Bridgeport’s bullpen put the icing on the cake of the sweep with winning pitcher Frank DeJiulio, Jr. (4-5) retiring all three batters he faced, striking out one.
