Seven Scoreless Innings For Lara, Three More Hits For Abreu
(Bridgeport, CT– June 15, 2017) – The Bridgeport Bluefish (31-23) defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers (28-25) 6-0 at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Thursday night to complete a three game sweep of the midweek series. Bridgeport has now won eight of their last ten games in the Park City, and have won four consecutive games at home, matching a season-high that was also recorded between May 30th and June 2nd. The Bluefish notch their fourth shutout as a staff this season, and outscore the Barnstormers 18-3 in the series.
Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Rainy Lara (5-2) earned the win, firing seven scoreless innings, allowing just four hits, striking out two. The right-hander now leads the ballclub in victories, and collects his sixth quality start in nine outings on the 2017 campaign .Lancaster Starting Pitcher Nate Reed (0-4) was tagged with the loss, giving up three runs (two earned runs) on nine hits, walking one, striking out seven and issuing a wild pitch.
Bridgeport took a 1-0 lead against Reed in the home half of the first inning when Jose Cuevas plated D’Arby Myers with the game’s first run on an RBI infield single after Myers led off the frame with an infield base knock of his own. The Bluefish made it 3-0 in their favor in the bottom of the third on back to back run scoring singles from Andrew Lambo and Sean Burroughs. The boys from the Park City took a 4-0 advantage after the fans stretched out their arms and legs in the seventh on Lambo’s second RBI single of the evening, and concluding the scoring in the bottom of the eighth with two more runs as Tony Abreu and Myers each drove home a run to give the ‘Fish a 6-0 cushion as Bridgeport had their second series sweep of the season, both coming at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard, with the last taking place at the hands of their Nutmeg State rival New Britain Bees from May 30th to June 1st. Abreu led the way for the Bluefish with three hits, his second three hit game overall and seventh multi-hit game in 2017.
Bridgeport now welcomes in the reigning Atlantic League Champion Sugar Land Skeeters to the Ballpark at Harbor Yard for the first time this season on Friday, June 16th to kick off a three-game Father’s Day Weekend series in the Constitution State.
