Fields Registers Another Multi-Hit Game In The Losing Effort

(Bridgewater, NJ– June 7, 2017) – The Bridgeport Bluefish (26-21) were defeated by the Somerset Patriots (28-18) 7-2 at TD Bank Ballpark on Wednesday afternoon as the Patriots even up the three-game midweek series at a victory apiece. Somerset regains a two-and a half game lead over Bridgeport for First Place in the First Half of the Liberty Division Standings with 23 games remaining for the boys from the Park City.

Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Tyler Badamo (1-3) was tagged with the loss, surrendering five runs on nine hits in five innings of work, walking two and striking out four. Somerset Starting Pitcher Rick Teasley (4-1) earned the win, allowing just two runs (one earned run) on six hits in seven and two-thirds innings pitched, walking one and striking out five.

Somerset went to work quickly against Badamo, taking a 3-0 lead in the home half of the first inning. Adam Donachie got the scoring started when he plated Justin Pacchioli with the game’s first run after he laced a two-out RBI double down the left field line. Back to back run-scoring singles from Greg Golson and Tyler Bortnick finished the scoring off as the home team enjoyed an early three-run cushion. The Patriots made it 5-0 in their favor in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI base knock from Donachie and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Bortnick. Somerset concluded their scoring in the bottom of the sixth when Mark Minicozzi and Carlos Guzman each drove home a run with base hits to give the Patriots a 7-0 cushion. Bridgeport was finally able to crack the scoreboard in the top of the eighth on a pair of sacrifice flies from Luis Hernandez and D’Arby Myers, but that was all they could muster as they had no answer for Teasley, who improved to 2-0 versus the ‘Fish in 2017.Daniel Fields led the way for the Bluefish with two hits, notching his 11th multi-hit game on the 2017 campaign.
