Galvez Collects Three More Hits
(Bridgewater, NJ– May 27, 2017) – The Bridgeport Bluefish (19-17) were defeated by the Somerset Patriots (23-13) 5-1 at TD Bank Ballpark on Saturday night as the Patriots have now taken the first two games of the four-game Memorial Day weekend series. Bridgeport has lost a season-high three consecutive games and fall four games back of Somerset for First Place in the First Half of the Liberty Division Standings.
Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Rainy Lara (3-1) was tagged with the loss, surrendering four runs (three earned runs) in five innings pitched, striking out five. Somerset Starting Pitcher Rick Teasley (3-0) earned the win, firing seven and one-third scoreless innings, allowing just five hits, lowering his ERA to 1.45.
Somerset took a 2-0 lead against Lara in the home half of the third inning on a sacrifice fly by Aharon Eggleston and a two-out, seeing-eye RBI base knock to left field off the bat of Olmo Rosario. Rosario was at it for the second time in as many at-bats against Lara in the bottom of the fifth inning as he laced a two-run single again with two out, plating Justin Pacchioli and Scott Kelly to give the home team a 4-0 cushion. Eggleston’s RBI single in the bottom of the seventh made it 5-0 in favor of Somerset as they were well in control. Bridgeport did not go down without a fight, as they avoided being shutout for the third time on the season when Jonathan Galvez drove home Jose Cuevas with a base hit after Cuevas led off the frame with a well-struck double to left field, but it was not enough as the ‘Fish have now scored just three runs on 12 hits in the first two games against the Somerset pitching staff. Galvez led the way offensively for the Bluefish with three hits, his ninth multi-hit game in 2017.
