Endy Chavez Plates A Pair In The Sixth To Win It For Bridgeport


(Bridgeport, CT– September 13, 2016) – The Bridgeport Bluefish (33-31, 63-71) defeated the Somerset Patriots (36-28, 74-60) 6-4 in seven innings at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Tuesday in the opener of a three-game series and day/night doubleheader.

Bridgeport Starting Pitcher David Kubiak registered a no-decision in the contest, giving up four runs on six hits in five and one-third innings pitched, walking one, striking out seven and surrendering a home run. Somerset Starting Pitcher Efrain Nieves also did not factor in the game’s final outcome, lasting four and one-third innings, allowing four runs on seven hits, walking and striking out three. Sam Gervacio (2-3) earned the victory out of the bullpen not allowing a run in an inning and a third on the mound, striking out one and hitting a batter. Kyler Newby (1-2) was tagged with the loss, giving up two runs on one hit in an inning pitched for Somerset, walking one after facing five batters.

In a ballgame that saw three ties and four lead changes, Bridgeport went ahead for good in the home half of the sixth inning on a two-out, two run single by Endy Chavez off southpaw Jeremy Bleich, plating Jose Cuevas who led off the frame with a single and Jonathan Galvez who followed Cuevas with a walk. The base knock for Chavez was his first of the day as he continues to lead the Atlantic League in batting average at .336. The Bluefish continue their final regular season homestand when they host the Somerset Patriots at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard in the nightcap of the doubleheader which is slated for nine innings of play. First pitch is scheduled for 7:12 P.M. It will be a $2 Tuesday, where hot dogs will be just $2 plus there will be another $2 special at the concession stands.
