Multi-Hit Game Number 32 On The Season For Cuevas
(Sugar Land, TX– September 12, 2017) – The Sugar Land Skeeters (34-31, 64-71) defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish (33-32, 74-61) 5-0 at Constellation Field on Tuesday evening in the opener of a three-game midweek series in The Lone Star State. Bridgeport is shutout in a ballgame for the sixth time this season and have their three-game winning streak come to a close in the process.
Bridgeport starting pitcher Manny Parra (3-4) was tagged with the loss, surrendering three runs on seven hits in five innings pitched, walking one and striking out two while tossing a wild pitch. Sugar Land starting pitcher Jake Hale (11-6) went the distance on seven hits allowed en route to the victory, striking one in his nine innings pitched. The right-hander is now tied with Kyle Simon of the New Britain Bees for the most complete games in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball on the 2017 campaign with five.
Sugar Land took a 1-0 lead against Parra in the bottom half of the second inning when Albert Cordero plated Travis Scott with a sacrifice fly. The Skeeters made it 2-0 in their favor in the home half of the fourth on an RBI single off the bat of Wilfredo Rodriguez. The home team added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth for a 3-0 cushion when Cole Gillespie drove in Caleb Ramsey with a two-base hit into the left field corner. Sugar Land comfortably went ahead 5-0 in the bottom of the sixth on back-to-back run-scoring base knocks from Cordero and Ramsey as the Skeeters scored four of their five runs on the night by way of two-out hits. Welington Dotel, Joe Poletsky, and Jose Cuevas led the way offensively for the Bluefish with a pair of hits each, with Cuevas notching his 32nd multi-hit game of the season overall for the boys from The Park City.
